Inaccurate speed data display with Windows version of 7.5

I am getting inaccurate speed data displayed during recent rides - there is very little variation in the speed displayed and it shows higher speeds than is realistic going up hill and significantly slower speeds going downhill. The data at the end of the ride and on the fit file seems fine but the lack of accurate data during the ride is frustrating and makes challenge type rides difficult.
