Color the elevation line and leave out the vertical bars

I’m wondering if it would be possible to just draw the traditional elevation profile line and color it in with the various gradient lines, eliminating the colored-in vertical space below the line that looks bad, blocks scenery, etc. With just coloring the line it wouldn’t take up any more space than it already does and it’s already optional IIRC. I might have to be a tiny bit wider to make it show up better but not much different than the original.
